| Help.. my adobe document is only visible in a browser frame and I cannot enlarge the document for viewing. | |
| This problem may be caused by "Active X" on your personal computer. To solve this problem, try the following. You must modify the PDF file type association properties to eliminate the Active X errors (and possibly other errors) that occurs when loading a PDF. To modify the PDF file type properties, open the Windows Explorer and navigate to the PDF (Adobe Acrobat document) registered file type (View, Folder Options, File Types). Select Edit on the adobe acrobat document file type and remove the Content Type (MIME) entry. This modification will change the behavior of your Browser to initiate an Adobe Acrobat window to view PDF’s in, therefore eliminating errors that may exist because of incompatible versions of Adobe and your Browser. |
| How can I get the maps in EDDIE to print out correctly? | |
| EDDIE maps are large and trying to print them from the Adobe reader can result in only portions of the map printing. To solve this problem, make sure to select the "shrink to fit" option is checked on the print dialog box within Adobe. |
| I tried to print out a page from EDDIE and all I got was the menu buttons. | |
| EDDIE is designed with frames which sometimes allows this to happen. Just make sure your "cursor" arrow is active on the part of the page you want to print and the page should print just fine. Because many of the EDDIE web pages are "wide", we recommend that you set your printer output to "landscape" to capture the entire page. |
| Why are some maps missing from the documents and a page telling me to go to the reading room inserted? | |
| There are two possibilities : (1) We are still trying to get a good electronic copy of the map and posted the text first so people would have access to the document without waiting for us to obtain a copy of an individual map; or (2) there is no electronic version of the map and we are in the process of scanning the map. Either way, check back during the next update and the map should be present. |
| Help! I can't read the maps in EDDIE although I have an Adobe Acrobat reader installed on my computer. | |
| You probably have an earlier version of the Adobe reader. To view the maps on EDDIE properly, you need the latest version of the reader (3.0 or above). Just click on any of this web site's links to Adobe and you can easily download the latest version. Once installed, you should have no trouble reading the maps. |
| How do I view or download an Adobe PDF file? | |
Refer to the documentation, Adobe Acrobat® Reader Instructions. Note: The Adobe reader is a free download.
Once you have your Acrobat Reader installed, all you do is click on the document or map in EDDIE. The Reader will automatically load and open the file. You may then access the various features of the reader. To exit, hit your browser's "back" button. |
| Why do the documents posted on EDDIE look slightly different from the documents I saw at the Reading Room? Are they changed? | |
| Absolutely not! The documents posted on this web server are the same documents as those found in the four Rocky Flats reading rooms, the only differences are the locations of figures and tables that were provided to the web site administrators as individual files. To make the document easier to post and read, sometimes we have separated some of the sections and grouped some of the tables and figures. All the information should be the same as the documents found in the reading rooms. Sometimes during conversions to PDF format minor modifications to some text or graphics may occur. If you note any inconsistencies, please contact the EDDIE webmasters. |
| The maps in the map library are too small to read on my screen. How do I get a "close up" view of the map? | |
| When you view the map in the Adobe
Acrobat® reader, just press the magnifying glass button with a "+" on the menu bar, move your mouse pointer (that now looks like a magnifying glass) on the area you want a close up view and click. That should enlarge the map to allow better viewing. You can click multiple times to get a very enlarged view. Alternatively, using the magnifying glass button with a "-" will make the image smaller. |
| I just don’t want to read documents on the Web page. What are my other options for viewing Rocky Flats environmental documents? | |
You have several ways to obtain environmental information on Rocky Flats.
- You can select the document on this web page and print the document using the Adobe
Acrobat® reader. Depending on the length of the document and your printers
capacity, this may take a while. You also have the option in the Adobe
Acrobat® reader to print selected pages that are of interest. Just select
the printer icon and select the pages you want to
print. By selecting only the pages of interest, the printing process will be much quicker.
- You can visit a local public
reading room and review the available documents that are typically available
in Microfiche format. Readers for this media are available at each reading room.
