Surface waters at Rocky Flats are routinely
monitored for compliance with environmental regulations and Site permits and agreements,
to ensure that water quality standards are met, to support surface water management
operations, and to evaluate the potential for off-site release of contaminants. Primary
regulatory drivers for compliance monitoring are the Site’s National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit and the
Rocky Flats Cleanup Agreement. Surface water
management and pond operation decisions rely on water quality and quantity
information. Treated sanitary liquid effluents at the Site are carefully
controlled and monitored as part of the Site’s environmental protection
program.
